Microneedling

Microneedling

The treatment itself (also known as dermapen or dermaroller) is a form of collagen induction therapy, to help increase the skin’s collagen and skin elasticity to improve lines, pigmentation, age spots and scarring*. A series of needles penetrate the skin at a perpendicular angle using a mechanical device (known as a pen). The body’s natural healing response is what regenerates and improves the skin.

More
information

Microneedling is a fantastic treatment that was discovered following tattooing of the skin, that as a consequence of the needles entering and leaving the skin multiple times, new collagen had formed.

Today multiple tools are available to help improve the skin’s texture. Although single use sterile rollers are available, their is no ability to change to needle length, which is required for a pain free experience. Fortunately a mechanical device, allows for new sterile, single use needle tips to attach to the pen, that allows for an adjustment to the needle length bringing a pain free and relaxing experience when combined with anaesthetic cream.

What is microneedling?

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purposes of rejuvenation! The microneedling pen's needles produce micropunctures in skin that can enhance the absorption of skincare products and cause an increase in collagen production, which can minimize fine lines and scarring from causes like acne over time, among other benefits.

Questions & Answers

Yes, we use a new sterile needle for each treatment.
No, we apply topical anaesthetic to the skin for 30 mins prior to the treatment. The pen also allows us to adjust the needle length to ensure you have no pain at all during the treatment.
The cream is applied for 30 mins, the the other duration depends on the treatment areas you want to have treated.
Thin, sterile needle tips are injected into the skin's surface causing minor even injury to the skin. This triggers the body's healing cascade of events that lays down new collagen and elastin. Smoothing out fine lines, wrinkles, and scarring for 3 to 6 months after treatment.
Once collagen is laid down in the skin, natural collagen breakdown occurs over time. With good sunprotection and a healthy lifestyle, this will reduce the breakdown of the skin quality.
Immediately post treatment the skin will become red, which will reduce over the next 12 hours.
The majority of the redness will reduce the same day, and will disappear the following day. Some areas that require a deeper needle treatment, such as on scarring, can become red with blood spots, like bruising and can last as long as a brusie would usually last on the skin's surface.
Make-up can be reapplied the following day after treatment.
You can retrun to work and apply make-up the following day after treatment.
The likelihood of bruising depends on a few factors. Some clients are more prone to bruising due clotting levels. Some blood clotting disorders also increase your risk of bruising. However, for those without a blood clotting disorder, some things you can do beforehand are to stop your alcohol intake the day before treatment and reduce any blood thinning herbal remedies, such as gingko biloba, ginseng, ginger, glucosamine, turmeric, angelica and clove. Other blood thinning medication may not be suitable to stop taking. Therefore we would recommend you discuss this at your consultation with your practitioner.
The risk is low. Over the years that we have been offering this treatment, we have never had a case of a skin infection with microneedling. We cleanse the skin beforehand and recommend you keep your skin clean, and avoid touching your skin for the next 24 hours. It is advisable to ensure you have a clean pillow case for you first night following your treatment.
